Meddys — a Wichita-based Mediterranean restaurant with a faithful following in the Kansas City area — is opening another Johnson County location.

The restaurant received approval from the Lenexa Planning Commision on Monday to build a spot on the southwest corner of West 88th Street and Maurer Road.

The new location should be open by March, said vice president of operations Mark Logan. Construction is set to begin within a month.

This will be the Kansas City area’s third Meddys.

Serving shawarmas, baba ghanoush and falafels, Meddys unveiled its Prairie Village location at 4105 W. 83rd St. in December.

Meddys will open its 6301 Brookside Plaza location Sept. 20, Logan said. The restaurant is moving into the location of a Panera Bread that closed after a decade there. Previously, the company was eyeing an Overland Park location at 115th Street and Nall Avenue, Kansas City’s Power & Light District, the Northland and several other spots across the metro.

Menu items, like its “heavenly hummus plate,” are the stuff of founder Alex Harb’s childhood. The entrepreneur from Lebanon started Meddys in 2014, which quickly became a Wichita staple.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated Meddys in Prairie Village replaced a Panera Bread. Meddys in Brookside is replacing a Panera Bread.
