Sly James is a cat. The other Sly James is the former bow tie-wearing mayor of Kansas City.
Sly James the Cat, the one that dresses up like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, belongs to Kansas City, Kansas, resident Brandy Peed.
Feline Sly James has nearly 10,000 followers on instagram. He is also on Facebook and TikTok. Sly has a daily presence on social media in photos Peed takes of him dressed in outfits and placed in scenes she constructs that pay tribute to obscure and not-so-obscure holidays. A recent post shows Sly on his slyjamesthecat Instagram account dressed as Progressive Insurance spokes-character Flo to celebrate National Insurance Day.
When Sly is not reminding us of holidays like Toad Hollow Day of Encouragement or National Mason Jar Day, he is often seen wearing a number 15 Kansas City Chiefs jersey and sporting a Patrick Mahomes hair style courtesy of a wig and a Chiefs headband. Sly James the Cat has his own character, Catrick Mahomes.
Catrick shows up on Chiefs’ game days, or on special occasions like Patrick Mahomes being named the NFL’s most valuable player.
Peed, who is a teacher, says Catrick is a fan favorite and she is a bit superstitious about making certain she posts Catrick Mahomes when the Chiefs play.
She says they will be rooting for the Chiefs when they play in the Super Bowl.

Peed says she met the former mayor at a Sporting KC game where she showed him a picture of Sly the cat and says he got a kick out of it. A photo of Sly James, the cat, dressed as Sly James, the mayor, and signed by the mayor now hangs in her office.
