Four Kansas City Chiefs have been selected first-team All-Pro, one of them unanimously
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, defensive tackle Chris Jones and punter Tommy Townsend made the NFLPA’s All-Pro Team earlier in the week.
The quartet found themselves on another prestigious list days later.
Mahomes, Kelce, Jones and Townsend garnered first-team All-Pro honors, The Associated Press announced Friday morning.
The Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers were the only two organizations in the NFL to have four players collect first-team All-Pro honors.
For Mahomes, this marks his second career first-team All-Pro selection. The last time he did came in 2018, the same year the AP named Mahomes as the league’s MVP. Mahomes, who collected 49 of 50 first-team votes, had himself a 2022 regular-season campaign, topping the NFL in yards passing (5,250), touchdowns (41), first downs (272) and completions of 20-plus yards (73).
With Mahomes at the helm, the Chiefs finished the 2022 regular season with a 14-3 record and the AFC’s No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The Chiefs’ signal-caller is widely regarded as the front-runner for this season’s MVP award.
Kelce secured all 50 votes en route to his fourth-career All-Pro selection. Kelce paced the Chiefs’ passing attack with 110 catches, which were the third-most in the NFL, for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns. His catches and touchdowns were career-high marks, and he produced a seventh straight 1,000-yard receiving season.
Jones garnered 49 of 50 votes to secure his first career All-Pro status. The veteran defensive tackle totaled career-highs in sacks (15.5) and quarterback hits (29), plus 30 tackles. Jones’ 15.5 sacks this season tied for third-most in the league with New England Patriots linebacker Matt Judon.
Townsend’s powerful right leg earned him a spot after he booted 53 punts for 2,672 yards, averaging 50.4 yards per attempt. Townsend’s net average of 45.6 yards led the NFL.
Center Creed Humphrey and left guard Joe Thuney are All-Pro second team. All six Chiefs players securing All-Pro honors were also previously named to the Pro Bowl.
