NFL announces update on the Bills-Bengals game and the entire Week 18 schedule

The NFL announced Tuesday that Week 17 is officially over, even though the Bills-Bengals game was postponed following the medical emergency involving Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin.

In the first quarter of the “Monday Night Football” game in Cincinnati, Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest. After CPR was administered on the field, he was taken to a local hospital.

The Buffalo Bills shared this statement Tuesday afternoon: “Damar Hamlin spent last night in the intensive care unit and remains there today in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. We are grateful and thankful for the outpouring of support we have received thus far.”

Shortly thereafter, the NFL announced that the Bengals and Bills would not resume their game this week. The league didn’t say if the teams would restart their game before the playoffs, which are scheduled to begin on Jan. 14.

“After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed this week,” the league said in a statement. “The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date.”

Although the Chiefs canceled their scheduled media availability Tuesday out of respect for Hamlin, they did hold a short practice. Their game Saturday against the Raiders in Las Vegas remains on as scheduled.

The NFL said in its release it has not made any changes to the Week 18 regular-season schedule.
