Chiefs Kingdom joined NFL fans in donating millions to charity of Bills’ Damar Hamlin
The worst adjectives were used to describe Monday night’s Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game.
Terrifying, chilling and frightening are just a few of the words you never want to see attached to a game. But that was the only way to describe the scene when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed in the first quarter.
The Bills provided this update early Tuesday morning: “Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”
NFL fans, looking to support Hamlin in any possible way, found a GoFundMe page set up by Hamlin in 2020. It supports a daycare center in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.
“As I embark on my journey to the NFL, I will never forget where I come from and I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me,” Hamlin wrote on the GoFundMe page. “I created The Chasing M’s Foundation as a vehicle that will allow me to deliver that impact, and the first program is the 2020 Community Toy Drive.“
The GoFundMe had about $7,000 in donations before Hamlin’s medical emergency, per a Reddit user. As of Monday morning, that amount raised had topped $3.6 million, and nearly 139,000 people had donated to the cause. By 11 p.m. Monday evening, that amount was over $5.8 million.
Chiefs fans joined others in helping spread the word about the charitable cause and donating. Here are just a few examples of Chiefs fans stepping up to help.
