KC Chiefs’ Harrison Butker continues to miss practice. Here’s the latest update

The Harrison Butker Watch continues for another day.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Butker (left-ankle sprain) would not practice Thursday ahead of Monday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

“He’s still kind of working with that, the ankle sprain, just getting the swelling down,” Reid said.

Butker has practiced once, in a limited session last week, since suffering the injury in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. He has missed three straight games.

The Chiefs first turned to emergency signee Matt Ammendola to handle kicking duties in Weeks 2-3. But the team cut Ammendola after he missed an extra point and field goal in Week 3’s 20-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Kansas City then brought in Matthew Wright last week. He connected on two field goals, including a 44-yarder, and all five of his extra-point attempts in Sunday’s win at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wright would handle kicking duties against the Raiders Monday night if Butker must miss another game. And given Wright’s performance against Tampa Bay, the Chiefs should feel comfortable giving Butker, who has one of the strongest kicking legs in the NFL, as much time as he needs to get healthy.

“He’s got some swelling in there that he’s just got to get out,” Reid said. “That’s where we’re at right now. It’s not that he doesn’t want play. I mean, he wants to get out there.”

Reid said that Butker was the only player not practicing Thursday. That means cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (ankle) and right guard Trey Smith (pectoral), both of whom were hurt in Week 4, would see on-field work in some capacity Thursday afternoon.

The Chiefs later designated Smith as a limited participant in practice, while Sneed put in a full session.

Kansas City also listed defensive end Mike Danna (calf), tight end Jody Fortson (shoulder), wide receiver Mecole Hardman (heel), wide receiver Skyy Moore (ankle), wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (quad) and wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) as full participants.

Center Creed Humphrey was excused from practice for personal reasons.
