KC Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes earns AFC Player of Week award (his 2nd in a month)
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes dazzled in Sunday night’s 41-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ... and now he has received an honor for the performance.
The NFL announced Wednesday morning that Mahomes is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4.
Mahomes completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 249 yards and three touchdowns with an interception, adding 34 yards rushing in four carries against one of the NFL’s top defenses. A few of Mahomes’ throws made multiple highlight segments, including a spin move near the end zone that went for a 2-yard touchdown toss to running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Wednesday’s announcement marked the ninth career AFC Offensive Player of the Week award for Mahomes, and the second of the 2022 regular season. Mahomes previously garnered the recognition in Week 1 after a five-touchdown performance.
Mahomes’ nine Offensive Player of the Week awards are fifth-most among active quarterbacks and the most of any Chiefs player in team history.
Chiefs players have won a league award every week since the 2022 regular season started: Mahomes twice (Week 1, Week 4), rookie cornerback Jaylen Watson (AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 2), and punter Tommy Townsend, who was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September after Week 3 games.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are 3-1 and will host the Las Vegas Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night.
