Kansas City Chiefs working on contract extension for Tyreek Hill, per report
Wide receiver Tyreek Hill is about to enter the final year of his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, which pays him a base salary of $1.035 million.
But the Chiefs are currently working with Hill’s representation on a contract extension and the two sides have exchanged proposals, the NFL Network reported Friday.
Extending Hill’s contract makes sense because of what he means for the offense. But more importantly for the Chiefs, getting a new deal done now would have positive salary cap implications.
Hill, who signed a three-year, $54 million extension in September 2019, is on track to carry a $20.6 million cap hit at the start of the NFL’s new calendar year, which begins on March 16. An extension would allow the Chiefs to lower that cap hit and spread some of the money owed Hill over specific years.
The 28-year-old comes off a 2021 campaign in which he showcased more than just his world-class speed, totaling a career-high 111 catches for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns. His 111 reception marked a new team record,
Since arriving in Kansas City as a fifth-round draft pick in 2016, Hill has 479 catches for 6,630 yards, including four 1,000-yard seasons, and 56 touchdowns. He has garnered three first-team All-Pro honors (2016, 2018, 2020) and six straight Pro Bowl selections.
