Another Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach is leaving, per report, this time for Miami

The Chiefs’ coaching staff is apparently taking another hit.

Secondary/cornerbacks coach Sam Madison is heading to Miami to serve as the Dolphins’ cornerbacks coach/pass game specialist, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday night.

Madison would be the third departure from head coach Andy Reid’s Chiefs coaching staff since the season ended last month.

Assuming Madison’s hire in Miami is made official, he’ll join KC quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka (joined the New York Giants as offensive coordinator) and linebackers coach Matt House (left for LSU’s defensive coordinator position) as Chiefs assistants who’ve departed for new jobs elsewhere in the past several weeks.

Madison joined the Chiefs in 2019 and helped mentor their young cornerbacks, including Charvarius Ward and L’Jarius Sneed.

In Miami, Madison would reunite with the organization that drafted him in 1997. He spent nine seasons with the Dolphins, garnering two first-team All-Pro selections (1999, 2000) and four Pro Bowl nods (1999-2002).

Madison’s final three NFL seasons were spent with the New York Giants (2006-08). He played two of those seasons under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who currently holds the same position with the Chiefs.
