Kansas City Chiefs QB coach Mike Kafka expected to accept OC job with NY Giants: report
Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka is expected to accept a new position as offensive coordinator with the New York Giants, the NFL Network reports.
The 34-year-old Kafka, a former NFL quarterback, joined the Chiefs in 2017 as an offensive quality control coach and was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2018. Kafka’s hire in KC reunited him with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who used a fourth-round pick to draft Kafka in 2010 while Reid was head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
In Kansas City, Kafka worked closely with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has developed into one of the NFL’s elite signal-callers.
If his hire in New York is made official, Kafka would become the second assistant coach to leave Reid’s 2021 coaching staff for another job opportunity. Linebackers coach Matt House accepted the defensive coordinator position with LSU under new head coach Brian Kelly.
And there could be more adjustments coming for Reid and his staff of assistant coaches.
“I’m sure there will be other guys that will have opportunities, so it just depends,” Reid said Monday. “Every year is a little different, but we’ll just see how that goes in the next few days take place.”
