KC Chiefs’ Chris Jones played so well Sunday vs. Dallas he won this NFL honor Wednesday
Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones capped a magnificent performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11 with a league award.
The NFL on Wednesday recognized Jones with its AFC Defensive Player of the Week award.
Jones led the defensive charge in the Chiefs’ 19-9 win, totaling five tackles — including two for a loss — 3.5 sacks against Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, three quarterback hits, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed.
The two-time Pro Bowler’s 3.5 sacks were a career high and marked Jones’ 11th career multi-sack game. He has a team-high 6.5 sacks through 11 games.
Jones’ production against the Cowboys contributed to an overall defensive shutdown of Dallas’ vaunted offense, which entered the game ranked No. 1 in the league in total yards (433.9) and scoring (31.6). The Chiefs limited the Cowboys to 276 yards and no touchdowns.
As a team, the Chiefs totaled five sacks and eight quarterback hits.
This is Jones’ second AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. He last garnered the honor in Week 2 of the 2017 season, with four tackles, three sacks, two quarterback hits and two forced fumbles against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jones joins former Chiefs’ greats Neil Smith (Week 16, 1994 and Week 5, 1993) and Art Still (Weeks 3 and 14, 1986) as the only Kansas City defensive linemen to earn the league honor on multiple occasions.
