KC Chiefs-Denver Broncos game on Dec. 5 is moving up to prime-time. Here are details
How about one more prime-time game for Arrowhead Stadium?
The Chiefs-Broncos matchup on Sunday, Dec. 5 has been flexed to Sunday Night Football, the NFL announced Tuesday. Kickoff for the Week 13 game will be at 7:20 p.m. on NBC.
Chiefs-Broncos replaces the Seahawks-49ers, which will move to the late-afternoon window. That NFC West rivalry game has lost its luster this year with San Francisco 5-5 and Seattle just 3-7.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, have vaulted into first place in the AFC West thanks to a four-game winning streak. Denver is 5-5 ahead of a home date with the Chargers this week.
The Chiefs’ original schedule already included five prime-time games, though just two for Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs will be coming off a bye when they welcome the Broncos to town. Coach Andy Reid is 19-3 in his career coming off a bye.
A year ago, Denver’s trip to Kansas City also fell on Sunday Night Football, with the Chiefs holding on for a 22-16 victory.
The NFL established a rule in 2006 that allowed the league to “flex” afternoon games into prime-time slots on Sunday Night Football. They can implement the flex scheduling anytime between Weeks 11-18 and two weeks from Weeks 5-10.
