Chiefs long-snapper James Winchester isn’t going anywhere in the immediate future.

The Chiefs on Tuesday signed Winchester to a two-year contract extension, keeping him in Kansas City through the 2023 season, sources confirmed with The Star.

Before the extension, Winchester was in the final year of his contract, which pays a base salary of $990,000. Financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed, but ESPN reported the extension makes Winchester the highest-paid long-snapper in the league.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Winchester entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma with the Philadelphia Eagles. He joined the Chiefs in 2015 and has appeared in 107 games as a mainstay of Kansas City’s special teams.

Winchester has totaled nine tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery as the Chiefs’ long-snapper.
