KC Chiefs’ Mike Remmers only player to miss Wednesday’s practice, and Hitchens returns
The Chiefs came out of Monday night’s game relatively healthy, and the good news on that front carried over to Wednesday — the first day of practice this week ahead of Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers at Arrowhead Stadium.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said right tackle Mike Remmers (knee) was the only player absent from practice.
Remmers appeared on last week’s injury report but put in two limited practices before the Chiefs played host to the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. The Chiefs eventually listed Remmers as inactive, and rookie Lucas Niang drew the start at right tackle.
If Remmers can’t play against Green Bay on Sunday, Niang, who started the first five games of the season for the Chiefs at right tackle, is likely to draw duty with the first-team offense again.
Reid didn’t mention linebacker Anthony Hitchens (triceps) or defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (knee) before Wednesday’s practice, so that was a good sign that the duo would be on the field in some capacity Wednesday afternoon.
Hitchens hasn’t played since suffering his triceps injury in Week 6, while Saunders missed Monday night’s game.
The Chiefs later designated Hitchens, Saunders, fullback Michael Burton (pectoral), wide receiver Tyreek Hill (ankle), tight end Travis Kelce (neck), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (hip), cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (wrist), guard Joe Thuney (hand) and newly arrived outside linebacker/defensive end Melvin Ingram (groin) as full participants in Wednesday’s practice.
Defensive end Chris Jones (back, wrist) put in a limited practice.
Tight end Daniel Brown, recently acquired in the trade that sent Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to the New York Jets, was still en route to Kansas City, so he did not practice Wednesday.
For the Packers, defensive linemen Jack Heflin (illness), Kingsley Keke (concussion) and Dean Lowry (hamstring) did not practice. Tackle Dennis Kelly (back) was a limited participant, while cornerback Kevin King (shoulder, back) and tight end Josiah Deguara (finger) practiced fully.
