‘Ready for Sunday’: all 53 Kansas City Chiefs players practice ahead of Chargers game

The Chiefs were looking forward to having everyone on the field for practice, the team announced Thursday morning.

That meant running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who wasn’t listed on Wednesday’s injury report, would get in some work for the second straight day after briefly dealing with a non-COVID sickness.

The Chiefs also had defensive end Chris Jones (wrist), linebacker Anthony Hitchens (abdomen) and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (hip) available in some capacity.

Jones was later designated as limited participant for the second straight day, while Nnadi put in a full practice.

As for Hitchens, the veteran linebacker returned a full practice Thursday after being limited Wednesday. He also took a few minutes before practice to explain his recent surgery, which Chiefs coach Andy Reid had on Wednesday described as a “fatty tissue issue.”

“I had like a genetic cyst, you could call it,” Hitchens said. “I had a couple of them removed.”

He also left little doubt regarding his status for Sunday’s home game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“I’ll be ready for Sunday,” Hitchens said.

The Chiefs listed cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (quad), rookie guard Trey Smith (wrist), tight end Blake Bell (ankle) and center Austin Blythe (abdomen) as full participants in practice for the second straight day.

Defensive end Frank Clark was added to the Thursday’s injury report as a limited participant with a hamstring injury. Clark originally suffered the injury during training camp and didn’t play in the Chiefs’ preseason games or season opener. He returned to action last weekend and practiced fully on Wednesday.

Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. was observed on the field, going through stretching exercises, during the portion of Thursday’s practice that was open to reporters. Gay remains on the injured reserve list with a toe injury but is eligible to return in Week 4 if cleared medically.
