Chiefs rookie safety Juan Thornhill leaves Chargers game with knee injury at Arrowhead

The revamped Chiefs secondary has absorbed a big loss.

Rookie safety Juan Thornhill departed the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a left knee injury.

The Chiefs announced that he has been ruled out for the rest of the game at Arrowhead Stadium.

Thornhill needed the aid of trainers to leave the field and eventually made his way to a cart, which drove him into the tunnel.

On his final play, he charged into the defensive backfield on a blitz. He reached for his knee after planting his leg into the ground.

Late in the second quarter, Thornhill tweeted this message:

Thornhill has played a significant role in the Chiefs’ resurgence in the defensive backfield. He has made three interceptions, returning one of them for an touchdown.

The Chiefs plucked Thornhill in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Virginia.
