Chiefs-Bears prediction: KC road warriors look to match this team record

Chiefs-Bears isn’t the game that the NFL’s schedule-makers had in mind when it found this weekend’s prime-time Sunday spot.

Chicago was eliminated from the playoff chase last weekend and is riding out a disappointing season in Matt Nagy’s second year. The Chiefs broke out their AFC West division-champion hats and T-shirts two weeks ago in New England and will know by dinner time Saturday if their playoff position improved with the outcome of the Patriots-Bills game.

Kickoff: 7:20 p.m., Solider Field, Chicago

TV/Radio: NBC (Ch. 41), KCFX (101.1 FM)

Line: Chiefs by 6

Blair Kerkhoff’s prediction: Chiefs 27-16

The Chiefs are bidding to match their club record for road victories in a season, with seven, including a win in Mexico City against the L.A. Chargers. The Chiefs went 7-0 in the 1966 Super Bowl season.

Another victory-related statistic from last week: The Chiefs (10-4) became the 15th team in NFL history with five straight double-digit victory seasons. The Patriots’ current 17-year streak is the longest in NFL history. The 49ers had a run of 16 (1983-1998). No other team has more than nine.

Andy Reid is the only coach to have accomplished a five-year, double-digit victory streak with two teams (Eagles 2000-04).

Next up: the Bears, and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who has averaged 305 yards and has thrown seven touchdown passes the past three weeks. Chicago had won three straight before falling at Green Bay last weekend. The Chiefs are riding a four-game winning streak, and Reid usually finds a way to beat his former assistants. Look for the Bears to hang for three quarters before the Chiefs win by two scores.
