Helmet-gate? Chiefs’ equipment mistakenly sent to Jersey, arrives in time for Patriots
A mix-up had the Kansas City Chiefs scrambling early Sunday afternoon before taking on the New England Patriots.
An equipment container with gear, including helmets and shoulder pads belonging to at least 35 players, was mistakenly sent Saturday to New Jersey instead of New England.
The Chiefs noticed what a team spokesman called an “honest mistake” early Sunday and immediately arranged for the equipment to be sent from New Jersey to Foxborough, Mass., where it arrived a little less than two hours before the 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who first reported the news, pointed out that if the equipment hadn’t arrived, the Chiefs would have been required to forfeit the game.
