Chiefs’ Breeland Speaks suspended 4 games for violating NFL’s substance-abuse policy
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Breeland Speaks will spend the rest of his season on injured reserve serving a league-imposed suspension.
The NFL suspended Speaks for four games, according to Friday’s NFL Transactions report.
While the league’s report didn’t list a reason for the suspension, a source told The Star he was suspended for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
The Chiefs issued a statement shortly after Speaks’ suspension was announced.
“The NFL notified the Kansas City Chiefs of Breeland Speaks’ four-game suspension,” the statement read. “We will have no comment at this time.”
Speaks was placed on injured reserve before the start of the season after undergoing knee surgery in late August, making him ineligible to return to the roster.
