Chiefs’ Damien Williams officially out Sunday; Claiborne, Fenton also won’t play

The Kansas City Chiefs are officially down a running back for Sunday’s game at the New England Patriots.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday that Damien Williams (rib) is out for Week 14. Williams missed a third straight day of practice.

With Williams down for a second straight game, the Chiefs will lean on running backs LeSean McCoy, Spencer Ware and rookie Darwin Thompson. Williams originally suffered the injury in Week 11.

Ware, who rejoined the team after signing a free-agent deal, practiced the entire week and impressed the coaching staff with how much he retained from his first go-round in Kansas City.

“Spencer is real smart, so the retention part of it wasn’t really a big deal,” Reid said. “He just picked up right where he left off. It was just a matter of getting the legs going and getting back into the swing of things. But he looked good, he did a good job.”

Cornerback Morris Claiborne (shoulder) and cornerback Rashad Fenton (hamstring) are also out Sunday, Reid said.

Defensive end Frank Clark, who is dealing with an illness in addition to his shoulder injury, and safety Jordan Lucas (illness) did not practice Friday.

Reid said he expects Clark to travel with the team to New England.

The Chiefs officially designated Clark and Lucas as questionable for Week 14.
