Another Royals standout named to All-Star Game. He was one of AL’s biggest snubs

The first half of this Kansas City Royals season hasn’t quite gone to expectations. But the Royals still have time to turn things around, in part because of a player who received some good news Friday afternoon.

After being snubbed for an All-Star reserve spot, Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia was named as a replacement to the 2025 All-Star Game, giving the Royals four players on the AL squad.

Garcia joins superstar shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., starting pitcher Kris Bubic and, as of an announcement earlier Friday, closer Carlos Estevez.

When the AL reserves were initially named, and then injury replacements started rolling in, Garcia took to social media and appeared to react to another third baseman getting the nod over him.

“It (is) what it (is),” Garcia wrote on X/Twitter.

Garcia hovered around seventh place on the initial fan-vote ballots. He leads the Royals in batting average (.305) and on-base percentage (.363) and is second on the team in stolen bases (18) and slugging (.464) — both behind Witt.

This is Garcia’s first All-Star nod. This year’s All-Star Game will take place in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 15.

Garcia replaces the Rays’ Brandon Lowe, who was placed on the injured list.
