Jac Caglianone hits first career homer with Royals. The sound was unmistakable

Jac Caglianone added to his memorable first month with the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.

Caglianone blasted a solo homer against the Texas Rangers in the series finale at Globe Life Field. The home run was loud and left in a hurry.

In the venue, the sound was striking.

In the second inning, Caglianone hit a 95.5 mph fastball off Rangers reliever Jacob Latz that landed in the Rangers’ bullpen. The homer traveled 387 feet and had a 106.5 mph exit velocity.

Caglianone waited 14 games before circling the bases. He generated headlines in the minor leagues for his raw power. The Royals are witnessing it firsthand following his MLB debut earlier this month.

Several Royals watched from the top step of the dugout. Caglianone got a celebratory handshake from base coaches Damon Hollins and Vance Wilson. He stepped on home plate and was first greeted by teammate Freddy Fermin.

From there, Caglianone received the silent treatment before a parade of Royals came over to give him a rousing ovation. It was his 11th career hit with the team.

The Royals promoted Caglianone from Triple-A Omaha on June 2. He made his debut against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. He had around 20 family members and friends in attendance for his first game.

Caglianone batted sixth in the Royals lineup. His arrival shifted Maikel Garcia into the third spot and bumped Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez down in the order.

The change was successful. The Royals scored 22 runs and registered 37 hits in the I-70 series against the Cardinals. KC was 11-for-33 with runners in scoring position.

Caglianone registered an RBI double in his second career game. He smashed a line drive down the right-field line and received the baseball. He later revealed plans to hand it to his dad for safekeeping.

A week later, Caglianone made his home debut at The K. And Royals fans arrived to welcome him with a standing ovation.

“Really cool to hear the crowd react the way that they did,” Caglianone said. “You know, it’s a super warm welcome. I’m thankful for everyone that was a part of it. It was pretty cool to see Pat Mahomes there. That was great.”

This season, Caglianone is hitting .212 (11-for-52) with two doubles, one home run and three RBIs. He has recorded 39 batted balls and four barrels, per Baseball Savant. Caglianone also holds a 51.3% hard hit rate prior to Thursday’s game.

It remains to be seen if Caglianone will get his home run ball back. More homers will follow but the Royals phenom will always remember his first one.
