Does The K have a bad seat? Checking out a TikToker’s pick for the worst view

Is there really a bad seat inside Kauffman Stadium? A trending video on the social media app TikTok seems to believe there is one spot that stands out as the worst.

Cameron Guzzo, who runs the account attheballpark, hosts a series on his page called “Cheap Seat,” where he visits different stadiums around North America to find the worst seat inside the venue. He’s visited nearly every MLB stadium and journeyed to places like Metlife Stadium, the home of the NFL’s New York Jets and New York Giants.

His latest video posted on Wednesday, May 14, shows his trip to Kauffman Stadium, where he expresses appreciation for the stadium that opened in 1973. He said renovations over the last 50 years have kept it up to date and looking better than ever.

Guzzo said that just about every seat inside has fantastic sight lines, from the lower level to the upper deck and even the outfield standing room area. But there was one that stood out as the worst: section 246, row TT, seat 9.

@attheballpark Cheap Seat: Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals In this series, I’m trying to find the single worst seat at every stadium I visit. The seat is located right next to a support column, and in Guzzo’s video, he shows that the column blocks the view of the most of the infield, including home plate, first and third bases and the pitching mound.

“You can find these support columns all around the lower level concourse, but none of the others block views at all, including the column on the left field side,” Guzzo said. “You can’t really lean to look in without annoying the person next to you, and even if you can, you’re going to be super uncomfortable the entire game.”

Is this seat really as bad as Guzzo says? The Star set their sights on Kauffman Stadium during the Royals’ game against I-70 rival St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, May 16, to find out.

The worst seat in Kauffman Stadium?

The Star researched what seats were available for Friday’s game and found that the entire row TT in section 246 was purchased, including the seat Guzzo says is the worst. The closest seat available in section 246, row RR, cost $59 before fees.

We arrived early to the game to get a feel for the seat before the fan who bought the ticket appeared.

When sitting straight back, you can barely see second base, and half of the Crown Vision screen in the outfield is obstructed by the ceiling. If you wanted to learn where a St. Louis Cardinal is from, you’d have to look it up on your phone instead of looking directly at the screen.

The fan sitting here also can’t see any fireworks from this spot, which makes it a hard watch for Fireworks Friday, like the May 16 game has in store at the end of the game.

But after we checked out the obstructed view pregame, Peggy Storm from Warrensburg appeared in seat 9, waiting for the game the begin after the Royals honored the 1985 World Series roster.

She’s been a caregiver for over 45 years and said traveling to the game is a part of her job as a direct care assistant, where she assists the elderly daily in their homes. Her company paid for the seats for her and the people she cares for on a daily basis.

Peggy Storm, a caregiver for over 45 years from Warrensburg, sat in section 246, row TT, seat 9 on Friday, May 16. It’s the seat that TikTok video creator Cameron Guzzo called the worst seat inside Kauffman Stadium in a recent video.

When asked about the seat, Storm said she liked being in the shade since it’s directly underneath the structure, protecting her from the sun and any weather elements.

“We’re blessed to have this section,” Storm said. “I’m under the shade, I’m not hot. It’s a nice cool breeze and you can see the field.”

At some point during the early parts of the game, Storm did end up switching seats.

That person still might find some perks. There is decent leg room for you to rest during the game, though you can’t fully stretch out your legs. The left side of the seat acts as a personal exit so the person in the seat doesn’t have to walk in front of others watching the game. And it’s near restrooms and concession stands like Palacana and Grinders.

Although It’s not the best seat for a baseball fanatic, the seat isn’t all bad — for the right fan.
