These memorable quotes best describe Bobby Witt Jr.’s historic 2024 Royals campaign
Bobby Witt Jr. has garnered praise from several teammates and players across MLB this season.
The Royals star is frequently in the discussion among the best athletes in the sport. He finished off one of the best seasons in Royals history by batting .332, joining the 30-30 home run/stolen base club for a second straight season and helping lead KC back to the playoffs.
He made plenty of ridiculous highlights along the way, too.
Here are some of the best quotes surrounding Witt’s meteoric rise in 2024.
Kansas City Royals icon George Brett
“Every time he hits the ball, he’s thinking double out of the box,” Brett said. “You don’t see that. You just don’t see that.”
Brett also told The Star’s Vahe Gregorian: If Witt spends his whole career in KC, “I can kiss my (records) goodbye.”
Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman
“I knew the Witt family very, very well. I knew he was good, but I didn’t know he was going to be a top-three player in the game,” Freeman said. “When you come from a family like that, with that kind of athleticism, all the siblings and the mom and dad, too, it’s actually kind of hard (to be an emerging star).
“To see him do it, and become one of the best players in the game this early in his career, we are going to be talking about Bobby Witt Jr. for a very long time.”
Philadelphia Phillies star Trea Turner
“The ceiling is so high and I know he wants to achieve a lot of big things,” Turner said at this year’s MLB All-Star Game. “I never got a chance to be around people like that when I was his age. So I’m a little jealous of him, and I think he is really special, man. He’s a really good player and I like him as a person.”
Added the New York Mets’ Pete Alonso: “To see how he kind of blossomed and continues to perform on a very elite level, he is straight doing it. It’s really cool to see. He is a very special talent and Kansas City is lucky to have him. He is a phenomenal player.”
Kansas City Royals pitcher Michael Wacha
“It’s been a lot of fun to watch him this year. He’s a stud, and you never know what he is going to do that day,” Wacha said. “(It’s) exciting stuff in the field, in the box and with his (at-bats). He is just an all-around stud and great dude.”
Wacha added of Witt reaching 100 RBIs (he finished the season with 109): “Getting to that number, that’s a big number right there. That’s something to be proud of.”
Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes made an observation about Witt ... and how he managed to make a leap in 2024.
“I haven’t really talked to Bobby about this a lot, but it seems like every year he kind of starts playing better at this time of year and finishes really strong,” Mahomes said in July. “And I’ve always thought, like, what if he just starts fast and then see what happens? And that’s what he did this year.”
