Royals announce they are canceling 2021 FanFest, announce dates for 2022 event
Royals fans who have missed seeing their favorite players at games this season may have been looking forward to FanFest in 2021, but the team announced Tuesday the event has been canceled.
FanFest was scheduled to be held Jan. 29-30, 2021 at Bartle Hall at the Kansas City Convention Center.
But the team canceled it because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have been able to work on social distancing and masks as required, but it just wouldn’t have been the event that everybody has come to know,” said Toby Cook, the Royals’ vice president of publicity. “We felt like it was in everybody’s best interest, the fans especially, but also our players and our staff, to just bag it this year and we’ll be back in 2022.”
The Royals announced the next FanFest will be held Jan. 28-29, 2022.
FanFest began in 2008 with a one-day event at the Overland Park Convention Center. It was held at that site through 2011; the team took 2012 off to prepare for the All-Star Game.
In 2013, FanFest moved to Bartle Hall, where it has been held each year since.
Royals fans have a chance to meet their favorite players, get autographs at play games at the annual event.
