The Royals ended their week-long skid on Thursday with a 13-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs, which means they’ve won every game they’ve played with outfielder Nick Heath in the starting lineup.

Heath, who grew up in Junction City, Kan., made his first major-league start in the game, collecting his first hit and ending the game with a catch that resulted in him crashing into the wall.

You’ll hear from Heath, Royals manager Mike Matheny and beat writer Lynn Worthy in this episode of SportsBeat KC, The Star’s daily podcast. What went right this week — the team’s young starting pitchers looked pretty good, for one thing — and what didn’t? The season continues with a weekend series against another playoff team from last season, the Minnesota Twins, Friday night through Sunday.

But at least the Royals won’t go 0-for-Chicago this season. The six-game skid that ended Thursday came against the White Sox and Cubs.
