Royals’ Yordano Ventura, Christian Colon, six others reach deals on 2015 contracts
The Royals have reached agreements for 2015 contracts with eight players, including pitcher Yordano Ventura for $535,675.
Other nonarbitration eligible players signed are infielders Christian Colon ($509,525) and Orlando Calixte ($507,500), outfielders Terrence Gore ($508,000), Reymond Fuentes ($508,200) and Paulo Orlando ($507,500), catcher Francisco Pena and ($508,700) and pitcher Jandel Gustave ($507,500).
Ventura, 23, went 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA with 159 strikeouts in 2014, his rookie season. He posted a 3.20 ERA in the postseason and pitched seven shutout innings in game six of the World Series.
Three others made their major-league debuts with the Royals last season.
Colon, 25, was called up in September and hit .333. He drove in the tying run and scored the winning run in the 12th inning of the Royals’ Wild Card Game victory over the A’s.
Gore, 23, appeared in 11 games in his major-league debut season, mostly as a pinch runner. He picked up three steals in the postseason.
Pena, 25, hit 27 home runs for Class AAA Omaha and made his major-league debut last season.
The Royals announced Feb. 25 that 10 other players under team control agreed to one-year contracts: left-handed pitchers Brandon Finnegan ($508,075), Brian Flynn ($508,450) and John Lamb ($507,500); right-handed pitchers Aaron Brooks and Michael Mariot ($512,250); catcher Erik Kratz ($532,500); infielders Cheslor Cuthbert ($507,500) and Ryan Jackson; and outfielders Lane Adams ($508,000) and Jorge Bonifacio ($507,500).
With the signings, all 40 members of the Royals’ major league roster are under contract for 2015.
