Alex Gordon is on schedule to take batting practice with his teammates as early as next Tuesday, which Royals manager Ned Yost noted as an encouraging sign as Gordon returns from wrist surgery.

"He’s doing fine," Yost said.

There is still a pair of hurdles to clear before Gordon can reach this step. He is currently working through drills taking soft toss, and has not yet graduated past that stage. Once he is allowed to do more, he can begin taking indoor batting practice. If he completes those drills without incident, he can move on to outdoor batting practice.

Yost indicated Gordon could begin taking indoor batting practice later this week.

Gordon has said he expects to miss at least a week of Cactus League games. He insists he will be ready for Opening Day.
