As expected, Lee's Summit West will make the leap to Missouri Class 6 football. The Titans won the Class 5 state championship last fall. Their jump to Class 6 will force a reshuffling of the four football districts in the class.
Blue Springs, Joplin, Kickapoo. Lee's Summit, Lee's Summit North, Lee's Summit West, Raymore-Peculiar and Rockhurst will compete in Class 6, District 4. That pushes Blue Springs South to an expansive Class 6, District 3, along with Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt West, Hickman, Jefferson City, Rock Bridge, Timberland and Troy Buchanan.
The Liberty Blue Jays are slated to drop to Class 5 next season, with their crosstown rivals, Liberty North joining them in Class 5, District 8.
The Kearney Bulldogs, who played in the Class 5 semifinals last fall, will drop to Class 4 in football next season.
There will remain five classifications in girls and boys basketball for the next two years.
