The Falcons defeated fellow KC-area entrant Summit Christian Academy 3-1 in Friday afternoon’s MSHSAA state semifinals and will play for the Class 3 Missouri championship on Saturday at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton.

Summit Christian had made it to the semifinals with a 5-0 quarterfinal rout of Carl Junction. Van Horn gained its berth in the semis by edging St. Michael the Archangel 1-0.

Fort Zumwalt East beat Rockwood Summit 2-0 in the other Class 3 semifinal Friday and will meet Van Horn for the top trophy at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Summit Christian and Rockwood Summit will play for third place Saturday at 12:15.

In Friday evening’s Class 4 semifinals, Rockurst blanked Park Hill South 4-0. The Hawklets face St. Louis University High (SLUH), a 1-0 winner over Fort Zumwalt West in the earlier Class 4 semifinal, for the championship at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Rockhurst reached the semifinals by beating Springfield Glendale 3-0 in last week’s quarterfinals. Park Hill South advanced with a double-overtime victory over Blue Springs South and will now play Fort Zumwalt West for third place at 5 p.m. Saturday.

In Class 2 semifinal action, Springfield Catholic beat Harrisonville 8-0. Harrisonville had qualified for the semis with a 3-2 win over Maryville in the quarterfinal round. In the other semifinal, Principia beat Perryville 2-1.

Springfield Catholic plays Principia for the Class 2 title at 4 p.m. Saturday. Harrisonville plays Perryville for third place beforehand, at 2:30.

In the Class 1 semifinals, which also took place Friday in Fenton, Lone Jack beat Laquey/Richland 1-0 and Veritas Christian Academy of O’Fallon topped Metro of St. Louis 2-1. Lone Jack plays Veritas for the Class 1 championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.
