It was another big night of games across the Kansas City metro on Friday.

Here are some highlights from Week 7 of the Missouri high school football schedule.

No. 4 Blue Springs South 42, No. 3 Liberty 3

Blue Springs South made a big statement against the team that has ended its last two seasons.

The Jaguars, ranked No. 4 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, walloped No. 3 Liberty at Blue Springs South. The Blue Jays dealt Blue Springs South season-ending losses in the last two years of playoffs.

“I know the guys were waiting all year to get to this point. I know Liberty was, too. We have a little rivalry,” Blue Springs South coach Alan Wilmes said. “Kudos to our guys — they showed up and played and did their jobs. They weren’t perfect but (they) played hard and were physical and took over the game.”

Liberty (6-1) fumbled on the opening play of the game, which led to a seven-yard touchdown run by Blue Springs South senior quarterback Ayden Wilhelm.

The teams traded turnovers before Blue Springs South scored on a 46-yard TD pass from Wilhelm to Cam Riley. Another Liberty punt set up a third Jaguars scoring drive, capped by a 3-yard Wilhelm TD strike to Chance Taylor.

Wilhelm finished with 255 passing yards and five TDs as well as 94 yards and another score on the ground.

Liberty mustered a field goal 10 seconds into the second quarter, but on the ensuing play, Wilhelm hit Gary Hill for a 60-yard TD and 28-3 lead. Then a Liberty fumble — one of five LHS turnovers — led to another Wilhelm scoring strike to Hill, this time for 7 yards. Hill had six catches for 160 yards.

Riley, who finished with three catches for 77 yards, caught a late TD pass to complete the scoring.

The Jaguars (7-0) will take on rival Blue Springs next Friday, while Liberty plays host to Oak Park.

No. 7 Lee’s Summit North 27, No. 12 Liberty North 20

Lee’s Summit North rebounded from a rough loss with a big victory of its own.

The Broncos, No. 7 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, topped host and No. 12-ranked Liberty North by a touchdown Friday, seven days after falling 34-7 loss to Blue Springs South.

After a scoreless first quarter, Lee’s Summit North mounted an 11-play, 62-yard drive that took 5:26 to engineer.

Quarterback Stephen Thomas completed a 17-yard pass to junior Justyn Lindsay on a third-and-12 to extend the drive at midfield. Then Thomas found junior Bryce Thompson out of the backfield for a 23-yard gain to the Liberty North 4. Two plays later, Thomas hit William Ray in the left corner of the end zone for a 7-0 lead with 6:57 left in the half.

Following an Eagles punt, Lee’s Summit North drove 67 yards — a march highlighted by a 23-yard pass on fourth down with 32 seconds left. Two plays later, Thomas fired to a leaping Lindsay at the right pylon to make it 14-0.

The Broncos expanded the lead to 21-0 on Thomas’ two-yard keeper with 4:47 left in the third period.

Senior Zemar Cheatam put Liberty North on the board with an eight-yard TD scamper to start the final quarter. Then the Eagles got it to 21-14 on Xavier Scott’s 11-yard TD reception from junior QB Brennan Smith and a 2-point conversion.

Following a failed onside kick and with 47 seconds remaining, Thomas hit Ray again for a 48-yard TD. Smith then scored via a 13-yard keeper on the game’s final play.

Liberty North, which had won four straight, dropped to 4-3 and will play host to Rockhurst next Friday. Lee’s Summit North heads to Lee’s Summit West.
