Beating Ray-Pec, Blue Springs South softball returns to Missouri Class 5 title game
The Blue Springs South Jaguars softball team will play for another Missouri Class 6 state championship after beating a fellow Suburban Conference Gold Division qualifier in Thursday’s semifinals at the Killian Complex in Springfield.
Defending champion Blue Springs South beat Raymore-Peculiar 5-4 to advance to a title-game rematch of last year’s state championship game against Francis Howell, a 3-2 winner over Troy Buchanan on Thursday. Blue Springs South beat Francis Howell 10-2 for last year’s state championship.
The scheduled game time for Friday’s championship game between Blue Springs South and Francis Howell is 10 a.m. in Springfield. Blue Springs South advanced to the semifinals with a 16-2 win against Willard in last weekend’s state quarterfinals.
Ray-Pec will play Troy Buchanan for third place on Friday at 3 p.m.
In the Class 4 state tournament, Kearney fell 3-1 to Helias Catholic on Thursday at the Killian Complex. The Bulldogs later turned around and beat Parkway West 9-2 in the game for third place. Helias Catholic plays Washington for the Class 4 title at 12:45 p.m. Friday.
In the Class 3 tournament, Oak Grove plays Fatima in Friday’s semifinals in Springfield. The winner plays the winner of Friday’s other Class 3 semifinal, featuring St. Francis Borgia against Winfield, in Saturday’s 10 a.m. championship game. The loser will play for third place at 3 p.m. Friday.
