Blue Valley North appears to be on a mission this season on the volleyball court.

The Mustangs, third-place finishers in Kansas Class 6A a year ago and state champions in 2021, have jumped out to a 13-0 start.

Each week this fall, The Star and coverage partner 810 Varsity are honoring a Team of the Week for outstanding performance in local high school competition. This week, that team is BV North.

The Mustangs are led by senior setter Janelle Green (151 assists). She’s committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats. And junior Logan Parks (99 kills, 25.6 ace percentage) played for Team USA during this summer’s 2023 U19 Pan Am Cup.

“Our goal is to be state champs,” Green said. “I know all the girls have the same goal in mind, and we’re all driven the same way.”

BV North has lost just two sets all year and ranks No. 3 in the latest 810 Varsity volleyball Top 25. With wins over Blue Valley Southwest and BV West on Wednesday — Senior Night — the Mustangs notched career win No. 700 for head coach Matt Allin.

“We’ve had very dedicated kids and parents in the program over the years,” Allin said. “It was a nice acknowledgment, but it’s not about me on Senior Night.”

The Mustangs have big matches ahead. They’ll play fellow top-three opponents in No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas and No. 2 St. James Academy on Tuesday.
