Viva Mexico: How to watch Mexico’s World Cup opener in Kansas City
Soccer fans are expected to gather in Kansas City Thursday to watch the first match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup: Mexico vs. South Africa.
Midwestern fans will watch El Tri kick off the tournament on home turf at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City at 2 p.m. Kansas Citians still have to wait for a local match – Argentina and Algeria play Tuesday at Arrowhead Stadium, renamed Kansas City Stadium. Mexican supporters have a number of options to watch Spanish-language broadcasts of the game.
Kansas City, Kansas’ Memorial Hall will play Spanish-language broadcasts of Mexico, Panama, Argentina matches, along with two other matches.
The Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City will host Spanish-language watch parties for Mexico, along with English ones for U.S. matches and those of teams whose base camps are set in the region (Algeria, Argentina, England, Netherlands).
Fans should register for free tickets online. Attendees can receive a free scarf while supplies last.
