La Gran Pachanga: Find watch parties in Kansas City for Mexico’s World Cup games

This month, fans will have an opportunity to watch Mexico’s FIFA World Cup games in the historic heart of Kansas City’s Mexican-American community.

Guadalupe Centers on the West Side is hosting two family-friendly World Cup watch parties, called La Gran Pachanga, at 1015 Avenida César E. Chávez. Tickets are free, but attendees must register online.

The first “grand party” will take place on Thursday, June 18 starting at 3 p.m., as Mexico plays South Korea at 8 p.m. in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The second will be held on Saturday, June 24 starting at 3 p.m. A double feature, the Guadalupe Centers will show the 5 p.m. Brazil-Scotland match in Miami along with Mexico vs. Czechia at 8 p.m. in Mexico City.

The events will feature food, vendors, and a children’s three-on-three soccer tournament. Tickets are free, but attendees must register online.

La Gran Pachanga

In a written statement, Leo Prieto, Guadalupe Centers’ chief community impact officer, said, “We are honored to host an event like La Gran Pachanga to celebrate culture and the excitement of the world’s greatest game.”

The FIFA World Cup kicks off on Thursday, June 11 at 2 p.m. with Mexico and South Africa facing off in Mexico City.

Guadalupe Centers is the site of one of many watch parties for the soccer tournament.

Kansas City, Kansas’ Memorial Hall will play Spanish-language broadcasts of Mexico, Panama, Argentina matches, along with two other matches.

The Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City will host watch parties for U.S. and Mexico matches along with the teams whose base camps are set in the region (Algeria, Australia, England, Netherlands).
