FIFA reveals colorful uniforms World Cup volunteers will wear in KC, host cities

Thousands of volunteers slated to work at FIFA World Cup events have been wondering for weeks: What will our uniforms look like? Volunteers get to keep their kits as a keepsake, one of the best perks of the gig.

They got their answer Tuesday when FIFA revealed boldly colored World Cup 2026 volunteer uniforms that will be worn in 16 host cities — including Kansas City — in three countries.

The outfits will make these trained helpers stand out in stadiums, at training sites, FIFA Fan Festival venues and other World Cup locations “as they welcome the world in style,” FIFA said in a press release.

Designed by long-standing FIFA partner Adidas, the uniforms can be customized with three Host City patches inspired by the look of American varsity jackets.

They also feature the FIFA volunteer program’s signature heart-shaped pattern honoring volunteers as the “heartbeat” of the tournament — a perfect match for the Heartland’s participation this year.

And of course, a pair of sneakers are included — black Adidas Puremotion 2.0 with a colorful patterned design on the signature three stripes. (Is it too late to volunteer?)

FIFA introduced the uniforms on the FIFA Volunteer Instagram account, where they were largely cheered by the people who get to wear them.

“I’M CRYING!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! Soooooo PROUD OF BE FIFA VOLUNTEER!!!!” wrote one volunteer.

“So colorful! Like a 90s look. That jacket is sleek,” wrote another.

“YALL COOKED WITH THIS ONE,” gushed another.

“The vibrant colors match the incredible energy that volunteers bring to FIFA events,” FIFA said.

Pieces are mix-and-match — the sneakers, socks, a mid-layer jacket, T-shirts, shorts, joggers, a cap and a waist bag, aka fanny pack.

The pieces, made of breathable materials that can be layered, were designed for comfort to accommodate various climates volunteers will find themselves working in.

“As we unveil the look of our biggest volunteer team yet, we celebrate the unmatched energy and dedication of the volunteers — who will not only help deliver the greatest sporting event on the planet, but will also ensure that every fan, player and guest is welcomed with warmth and a spirit of joy,” Heimo Schirgi, chief operating officer of FIFA World Cup 2026, said in a statement.

“Across the 16 host cities and beyond, this extraordinary team will create memorable experiences for fans.

“It is only fitting that they be represented by a vibrant look that reflects the essential role they play, with special elements that honor local identity and a sense of belonging.”

More than one million people applied to become part of the largest FIFA volunteer program yet, according to FIFA. Nearly 50,000 were chosen. Volunteers range in age from 18 to older than 80, students to retirees, first-timers to newbies.

They will receive their uniforms in the coming weeks.
