Get those bus passes ready.
That will be a primary form of transportation in Kansas City during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
KC2026, Kansas City’s host committee, announced Wednesday that it has signed a lease for 200 additional busses to be used during the World Cup next summer.
The bus system will complement existing bus routes on both sides of the state line and transport an estimated for 650,000 visitors to matches, fan fests, the airport and hotel centers.
“This is a major milestone,” said Pam Kramer, CEO of KC2026. “Securing these buses is a major logistical advantage as we plan a smooth and efficient transportation experience for residents and visitors during the World Cup.”
Kansas City will be the site of six World Cup games at Arrowhead Stadium. Group-stage games will be played on June 16, 20, 25 and 27. A Group of 32 game will be played there July 3 and a quarterfinal will be contested at Arrowhead on July 8.
The KC region is also expected to be the site of as many as three base camps for national teams from as-yet-unknown countries, serving as a home away from home for participating sides and their fans.
Kansas City officials have estimated that World Cup matches played locally could have an economic impact of $653 million. Kansas City is one of 11 sites in the U.S., and 16 in North America, that will be playing host to World Cup games.
