Kansas City makes international list of top 25 places to travel in 2025. Find out why
Kansas City joined majestic locales like Sri Lanka and the Isle of Man on the BBC’s 25 best places to travel in 2025 list.
The list, published on Thursday, Jan. 16, focused on destinations “using tourism to support local communities, protect the environment or preserve their unique cultural heritage.” This is the first year the British public news source has released the guide.
“Kansas City, Missouri is making 2025 its glow-up year,” wrote Eva Sandoval, a BBC travel journalist who lives in Italy and New York and wrote Kansas City’s entry.
She said the city “is busily promoting its creative arts scene and status as one of North America’s barbeque capitals, all while launching an urban revitalisation plan that includes new museums, entertainment districts and hotels.”
Sandoval touted developments in the area, including the forthcoming Museum of Barbecue in Crown Center, Berkley Riverfront development, Rock Island Bridge and the Main Street streetcar extension.
Kansas City has appeared on national and international travel rankings published by CNN, Time Magazine, the New York Times and the Washington Post.
The Missouri city joined two other American locales on the list: Hawaii and Tucson, Arizona.
