KC Roos men’s basketball season ends in Summit League tourney; women’s team advances

The KC Roos men’s basketball season came to an end on Thursday with a 70-61 loss to Omaha in the Summit League quarterfinals in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Jamar Brown finished with 27 points for Kansas City, which trailed by 14 at halftime. The Roos fell behind by 19 early in the second but closed the gap to seven twice in the final minutes before Omaha closed it out.

Kansas City finished with a 13-20 record in coach Marvin Menzies’ third season. The Roos were the preseason favorite to win the Summit.

Kansas City’s women’s team (10-21) opened Summit League tournament play with a 68-58 victory over North Dakota State in a quarterfinal game.

The sixth-seeded Roos got 20 points and 14 rebounds from Elauni Bennett, her third double-double of the season. Alayna Contreras added 14, Kelby Bannerman 11 and Emani Bennett 10.

Kansas City will take on second-seeded Oral Roberts in in a semifinal game on Saturday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m.
