KC Roos open Summit League men’s basketball tournament play with victory
For the first time since 2017, the KC Roos have advanced in their men’s conference basketball tournament.
The Roos, seeded eighth in the Summit League, defeated No. 9 Oral Roberts 73-56 Wednesday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Kansas City advanced to meet top-seeded Omaha at 6 p.m. Thursday (March 6).
Jamar Brown scored 19 of his 24 points in the first half. His 3-pointer broke a 15-15 tie and started a run in which he scored the Roos’ next 14 points. Brown went 5-for-10 on 3s.
Babacar Diallo added 21 points and Jayson Petty 18 for Kansas City, which improved to 13-19 in coach Marvin Menzies’ third season.
The previous conference tournament victory for Kansas City came in 2017, when the program was a member of the WAC.
The Roos women’s team opens tournament play, also in Sioux Falls, on Friday. Kansas City, seeded No. 6, will meet third-seeded North Dakota State in the quarterfinals.
