Kansas City Roos men’s basketball’s 2-game winning streak ends with St. Thomas loss

A chance at a three-game win streak and a .500 mark in league play did not do the trick for the Kansas City Roos on Saturday night at Swinney Center.

Poor shooting did them in.

The Roos were outplayed in the second half and got beat by Summit League foe St. Thomas 71-56.

Kansas City had won its two previous games, both at Swinney Center.

The Tommies and the Roos each made 10 3-pointers in Saturday night’s game (a blistering 10-of-21 for the Tommies; 10-of-27 for the Roos). But overall from the field, the Roos shot 42.2% (19-of-45), while the Tommies made 59.1% (26-of-44). It’s tough to keep up at that pace.

Jamar Brown led Kansas City with 15 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Andrews, who scored a career-high 25 points in a victory over Denver on Thursday, had 11 points on Saturday. He was 3 of 3 on 3-pointers.

With the loss the Roos are 10-14, and 4-5 in Summit League play. The Tommies, meanwhile, are 5-4 in the Summit and 15-9 overall. St. Thomas came in to Kansas City having lost two straight games.

The Tommies got the better of the Roos for the second time this season. St. Thomas beat KC 77-56 in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Dec. 31.

Kansas City will take to the road with a game on Thursday at North Dakota State in Fargo.

The Roos may have payback on the mind as Kansas City lost 92-91 in two overtimes to North Dakota State at Swinney on Jan. 11.

Kansas City has lost four straight games and is 1-8 in the Summit League, but 10-14 overall.

The Roos are set to play host to North Dakota State on Thursday at Swinney Center.
