Kansas City Roos erupt in the second half for blowout win over the Tabor Bluejays
A second-half outburst pushed Kansas City Roos men’s basketball ahead of the Tabor Bluejays on Tuesday, 80-57, and one player did much of the heavy lifting.
Jamar Brown scored 29 points to extend KC’s perfect record at Swinney Center this season.
A 3-point shot from Kenyon Holcombe put Tabor on the board first, the start of an 11-4 run to begin the game. But the Roos kept it close through the first half, entering the break with a narrow 35-34 lead over the Bluejays.
Eventually, KC found a spark.
The Roos went on a 9-0 second-half run, capped off by a dunk from Brown, to take a 57-49 lead. The Roos led the rest of the way.
After the dunk, the Bluejays only scored eight more points.
Brown, establishing a new season-high in scoring, led the game in points. He also hit four 3-pointers, while the rest of his KC teammates went 2-for-16 from distance.
Brown shot 57.1% from the field, hitting 12 of 21 shots. He added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Allen David Mukeba Jr. produced off the bench for Kansas City, posting his own season-high with 14 points in 17 minutes. He had seven rebounds, one off the Roos’ team-lead of eight from Melvyn Ebonkoli.
Thatcher McClure led the Bluejays in scoring with 18 points, going 7-for-14 from the field and 2-for-4 from 3. Two other Bluejays scored in double-digits, with Holcombe scoring 13 points and Jack Voth adding 11.
Tuesday’s game marked back-to-back wins for the Roos, who entered the game following a 72-67 victory over Lindenwood on Saturday.
Next up, Kansas City will look for its first three-game winning streak of the season, as the Roos travel to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 16.
