KC Roos light it up from 3-point range in Bahamas before losing 1st-round Baha Mar game

The Kansas City Roos knocked down a season-high 12 three-pointers in Friday’s game against UNC Greensboro in the Baha Mar Nassau Championship tournament at Nassau, Bahamas.

Unfortunately for the Roos, not even that sort of output from beyond the arc was enough to keep UNC Greensboro (3-1) from winning the first-round tourney game 76-64.

The Roos (2-3) were firing away from the opening tip and would finish the game with 34 three-point shot attempts, making 35.3% of them. The Spartans, meanwhile, were 12 of 27 (44.4%) from deep.

KC was within striking distance for a while in the opening half, but by intermission the Roos trailed 41-33 — the third straight game in which they’ve faced a double-digit halftime deficit

Cameron Faas led the Roos with 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from 3-point range. Jamar Brown and Anderson Kopp finished with 13 points and two made 3s apiece for Kansas City. Brown also grabbed 10 rebounds, marking the Roos’ first double-digit rebounding performance and first double-double of the season.

Donovan Atwell led UNC Greensboro with 26 points; forward Mikeal Brown-Jones added 23 for the Spartans, who advance on the winner’s side of the Baha Mar bracket.

The Roos’ next game in the Bahamas tournament is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday against either Brown or Delaware.

Women: Austin Peay 78, KC 63

The Roos were down 43-27 at halftime of Friday afternoon’s game at the Homer E. Woodling Arena on the Cleveland State campus in Cleveland, Ohio.

And things didn’t improve for the Roos (2-4) in the second half, as Austin Peay kept Kansas City at bay down the stretch.

Emani Bennett led Kansas City with 20 points. Dominique Phillips added 12. Anala Nelson and Shamarre Hale scored 13 points apiece to lead a quintet of Governors in double-figures.

The Roos shot just 2-of-12 from beyond the arc.
