Harrison Mevis was no stranger to big kicks at Missouri. That included a particularly memorable 61-yarder to beat Kansas State in 2023.

Well, he’s got that one beat — not in distance, but certainly in stakes.

The “Thicker (or Thiccer) Kicker,” as he became known in Columbia, drilled a 42-yard field goal in the snow Sunday night in Chicago, giving the Los Angeles Rams a 20-17 victory over the Chicago Bears.

“Shoot, that’s why we do it, man,” a smiling Mevis told the NBC broadcast postgame.

Mevis, who was signed midseason by the Rams, went 2-for-2 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points Sunday night. Temperatures in Chicago hovered around 20 degrees with a windchill below 10 for much of the game.

The Rams led 17-10 late in the fourth quarter until the Bears rallied to tie the score with less than 30 seconds to play. After both teams failed to score on their first possession of overtime, the Rams drove into field-goal range, where Mevis provided the winning kick.

“What a game!” Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz wrote on X. “Congrats to the THICKER KICKER!!”

The Rams will meet the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game at 5:30 p.m. Central on Sunday, Jan. 25, on FOX.

Mevis, who was a first-team All-American at Mizzou in 2021, initially signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2024. He was waived and later played that season in the UFL.

In 2025, Mevis, listed at 6-0, 245 pounds, began with the New York Jets but was again waived before the season. He landed with the Rams in November, going 12-for-13 on field goals in the regular season with a long of 52 yards.

Mevis also went 2-for-2 on field goals in the first round of the playoffs against the Carolina Panthers.
