Mizzou Tigers’ Harrison Mevis wins first-team All-America honors from Sporting News
Kicker Harrison Mevis and running back Tyler Badie have become staples on All-America lists circulated around the country in recent weeks.
The two Missouri Tigers football stars were again honored for their achievements on Tuesday, this time by Sporting News. Mevis was named a first-team All-American and Badie earned second-team honors.
Sporting News is one of five outlets that make up the national consensus All-Americans, along with the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association and Football Writers Association of America.
Badie was a second-team selection by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Associated Press. Mevis got a second-team nod from the FWAA. The AFCA list will be released Wednesday.
Mevis is Mizzou’s second All-America kicker, joining Grant Ressel, who made Sports Illustrated’s team in 2009. Badie is the Tigers’ first running back to make an All-America list since Devin West in 1998.
As a sophomore this season, Mevis made 20 field goals, which tied for 10th in the country. He only missed two of 22 attempts, good for a completion percentage of 90.9%, which also ranked 10th.
Mevis came up clutch for the Tigers from long range all year, drilling an SEC-high 11 field goals from 40-49 yards and making all three of his attempts from beyond 50 yards.
Badie finished the regular season third in the country with 1,604 rushing yards, good for 133.7 per game. He was second in the nation with 1,939 all-purpose yards. He recorded 14 rushing touchdowns and 18 total touchdowns on the year.
The New Orleans native recorded more than 200 rushing yards in five games in 2021 as well, becoming the first SEC player to do so in a single season this century. Badie also made program history by passing West’s single-season rushing record of 1,578 yards, set in 1998.
Mizzou football plays Army on Dec. 22 in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas.
