  • Missouri signs LB Cavan Tuley to strengthen special teams and depth
  • Tigers re-sign Cayden Green and consider moving him to right tackle

The Missouri Tigers bolstered several positions on offense this week with a pair of transfer-portal commitments and the official re-signing of last season's starting left tackle, Cayden Green.

The first commitment was UConn backup quarterback and rising senior Nick Evers. He has spent the last two seasons with the Huskies, recording 1,023 passing yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Before arriving at UConn, he spent one season at Wisconsin, where did not see any action. Evers originally committed to Oklahoma out of high school but threw just one pass for the Sooners.

He was a highly touted four-star prospect from Flower Mound, Texas, throwing for over 2,500 yards as a senior and 21 touchdowns. It is expected that Evers will add some depth and experience to a quarterback room now headlined by Ole Miss transfer Austin Simmons.

The second transfer-portal commit of the day was Houston linebacker and rising senior Cavan Tuley. The Tomball, Texas product recorded four tackles as a Cougar. Tuley was a mainstay of the Houston special teams rotation, playing all 111 of his snaps as a sophomore on kick returns, punt returns, coverages and extra points.

Tuley's nickname is "Toolbox," a nod to his versatility as a player. At Tomball High School, he was voted to the 2021 Texas Sports Writers Association Class 6A All-State Second Team as a senior thanks to 131 tackles.

He spent his first two years as a Cougar learning under Brian Early, who left Houston for his current position as the edges assistant coach for Missouri. Tuley will be a major addition to the Tigers' special-teams unit, which is looking for improvement heading into 2026.

The school also announced it had officially signed Green, who played left tackle primarily in 2025 and was voted to the All-SEC first team in his second season with the Tigers. A product of Lee’s Summit North High, Green played guard previously. He transferred from Oklahoma following the 2023 season.

Having Green return for his final season is a major boost for the Tigers and their new quarterback. While Green is skilled at both positions, there have been discussions of moving him to right tackle to protect lefty Simmons' blind side.

One DB departs, another arrives

Safety Mose Phillips III decided to hit the portal Wednesday, leaving the Tigers after one season, But On3Sports reported that former Oregon cornerback Sione Laulea has committed to Mizzou.

Laulea joins cornerbacks Jahlil Florence and Elijah Dotson, who committed to MU on Jan. 5 and Tuesday, respectively.

Like Laulea, Florence transferred from Oregon. Florence will have two years of eligibility remaining, while Laulea will have one. Dotson joins the Tigers from Michigan with three years of eligibility.
