Coach Dennis Gates’ Missouri Tigers basketball program adds UCLA transfer guard
Coach Dennis Gates Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team has been busy in the transfer portal, picking up its third commit — and second from the portal in the span of 24 hours.
UCLA transfer guard Sebastian Mack has committed to Mizzou, as reported first by On3’s Joe Tipton.
Mack spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Bruins, averaging 9.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Last season, he was UCLA’s sixth man in a majority of the Bruins’ games and averaged just under 21 minutes.
He was third on the Bruins in scoring. Mack’s numbers took a bit of a hit last season compared to his freshmen year.
The 6-foot-3 Chicago native who moved to the Las Vegas area as a teen averaged 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game during the 2023-24 campaign, earning Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors.
For his career, Mack has shot 40.4% from the field, 29.6% from 3-point range and 73.4% from the free-throw line.
Coming out of high school, Mack was ranked the No. 53 player in his class by Rivals.com and also was ranked No. 56 nationally in the 247Sports.com composite player rankings.
Sebastian’s father, Sam, played more than 20 years of professional basketball, including in the NBA for the Spurs, Rockets, Grizzlies, Warriors and Heat.
Sam played his college ball at Iowa State and Houston, with stops at Arizona State — where he redshirted — and Tyler Junior College.
Sebastian is the third transfer Mizzou has added this window, joining Loyola Marymount’s Jevon Porter and Oklahoma’s Luke Northweather.
Porter (Tolton) and Northweather (Blair Oaks) both hail from mid-Missouri and met up in the MSHSAA Class 4 District 9 final March 5, 2022.
The only portal departures so far from the Tigers have been junior forward Aidan Shaw and freshman guard Marcus Allen along with walk-ons Danny Stephens and JV Brown.
