No. 21 Mizzou men’s basketball team looks to keep momentum going in road game at Georgia
Coming off a dominant 82-58 home victory over Oklahoma, the No. 21-ranked Mizzou men’s basketball has hit the road south to play Georgia on Saturday in another Southeastern Conference showdown.
The Tigers (18-6, 7-4 SEC) have an 11-10 advantage in head-to-head meetings since 2001 and are 6-8 vs. UGA since joining the SEC.
Georgia, meanwhile, aims to snap a two-game losing streak Saturday. The Bulldogs (16-9, 4-8) lost 76-75 to Mississippi State and started strong against Texas A&M but couldn’t maintain their lead, ultimately falling 69-53.
Georgia is led by four-time SEC Freshman of the Week Asa Newell. The standout freshman was a five-star recruit and the No. 11-ranked prospect in the class of 2025, according to On3.com. The 6-foot-11 forward is averaging 15 points and 6.7 rebounds a game.
Newell is an offensive threat for the Bulldogs, shooting 54.5% from the field. He’s also made 15 three-pointers so far this season.
Georgia sophomore Silas Demary Jr. poses a threat to Missouri as well, averaging 11.8 points per game. Demary was named to the 2023-24 SEC All-Freshman team and ranks second on the Bulldogs in scoring.
Much like Missouri senior Caleb Grill, Georgia’s best shooter comes off the bench.
Graduate Dakota Leffew, a Mount St. Mary’s transfer, is averaging 36.8% from behind the arc. Leffew has started just four games but averages 10.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest.
Coach Mike White is in his third season with the Bulldogs and led Georgia to a pair of 11th-place finishes in the conference as well as an NIT semifinal appearance last season.
White holds a 52-42 record and a 16-32 SEC mark while with the Bulldogs.
Before his time with Georgia, White spent seven seasons at Florida. He led the Gators to four NCAA Tournament bids and an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2017.
Before his head-coaching days, White spent seven seasons at Ole Miss, where he helped lead the Rebels to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
Missouri takes on Georgia at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Georgia. The game airs on the SEC Network.
