These Missouri football players, including Luther Burden, received All-SEC honors

Three Missouri football players were named to the 2024 All-SEC team by the Southeastern Conference’s 16 coaches, the league announced Tuesday.

Junior wide receiver Luther Burden III was the leader of the pack for the Tigers, earning first-team honors as Mizzou’s lone representative on the first team all-conference squad. Burden was one of two wide receivers to earn a first-team designation, with freshman phenom Ryan Williams of Alabama also receiving the honor.

Burden, who led Missouri in touchdown receptions with six and finished second on the team in receiving yards with 676, was also named to the all-conference first team by both the SEC and the Associated Press in 2023. Burden rushed for 115 yards and two additional scores this season.

Burden declared for the NFL draft Dec. 2 and will miss the Tigers’ bout against Iowa in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30 in Nashville, Tennessee. Also expected to miss the bowl game is offensive lineman Armand Membou, who declared for the draft Dec 6.

Membou was named to the all-conference second team in his junior campaign. The third-year player from Lee’s Summit has started for the Tigers in 30 consecutive contests dating back to 2022. It was the first all-conference honor of Membou’s career.

Joining Membou with second-team honors was defensive lineman Johnny Walker Jr., who tied in votes with Georgia lineman Mykel Williams for the fourth and final defensive line spot on the second team. It was also the first all-conference selection of Walker’s career.

Walker, a graduate student from Tampa, Florida, recorded 10½ tackles for loss and a team-leading 7½ sacks in 2024. The fifth-year Tiger finished the regular season tied for seventh in the conference in sacks alongside Tennessee’s James Pierce Jr.

Walker is not expected to sit out of the Music City Bowl to end his final season in black and gold.

“I love this team. I don’t think opting out is an option for me,” Walker said following the Tigers’ final game of the regular season, a 28-21 win over Arkansas on Nov 30.
