Mizzou football will head to Music City Bowl. Here’s the opponent & game details
The Missouri Tigers learned their bowl assignment on Sunday after a 9-3 season.
Mizzou finally gets its long overdue trip to Nashville for the Music City Bowl against the Iowa Hawkeyes. That game will be Monday, Dec. 30.
The Tigers were slated to meet the Hawkeyes in the 2020 version of the bowl, but the contest was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is just the second matchup between these programs this century, with the previous being Mizzou’s 27-24 loss in the Insight Bowl.
“It’s an honor to be selected to participate in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl,” head coach Eli Drinkwitz said. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity to play at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. It’s a great market for our alumni and fan base, and I know we’ll have an excited crowd.
This is Drinkwitz’s fourth bowl game as MU’s head coach. He’s seeking his second bowl win one year after the Tigers’ Cotton Bowl victory over Ohio State.
“Our team has worked extremely hard to achieve this goal, and we are looking forward to preparing and playing against a terrific Iowa squad. I’m just thankful I get to coach this special group of men for one more game this season,” Drinkwitz said.
Drinkwitz and the Tigers will be without star wide receiver Luther Burden III against Iowa, after he announced he’s declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft and opting out of the bowl. The Tigers will also be without starting right tackle Armand Membou.
The Hawkeyes, led by the longest tenured head coach with one program across FBS in Kirk Ferentz, finished the regular season 8-4 (6-3 Big Ten) and fifth in the conference.
Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. on December 30 at Nissan Stadium. It’ll be broadcast on ESPN.
